New Role To Tackle Homelessness

Saturday, May 5th 2012 07:00

The issue of homelessness and a shortage of housing in Test Valley is set to be addressed, as the authority look at hiring a new member of staff.

The new employee would work to improve relations between the council and private landlords as they look at relying more on privately owned homes as a viable source of accommodation.

There are currently around 3,500 households on the housing register, with 2,309 seen as high priority.

With changes to benefits predicted to increase the number of people looking for cheaper accommodation the authority hopes hiring a part time housing officer will help improve the current situation.

The idea will be discussed at a meeting next week.
